About
The town of Lostwithiel is situated on the Fowey River, approximately five miles from the town of Fowey.
The town is served by a thriving community which hosts a popular community centre, several shops, several public houses and is on a regular bus route and main line train service.
The school is situated on the edge of the town and is very much part of the wider community. We regularly participate in local events. We have forged strong links with our local Community College using both their excellent facilities and expertise in a range of curricular activities.
The school itself dates back to 1818 and has been recently extended in 2006 to include head and secretary’s offices and a fully equipped staffroom. Building works are currently underway to add a library and outside play area for Class 1. The school was originally founded for the poor of the Parish to be educated within the principles and practices of the Church of England. Junior and Infant classes were added in the 1890’s. The annex was completed in 1990 and was used as a gym when the school hall was being used as a classroom. Renovation work was completed in 1994, which has transformed the school completely, providing two classrooms, a larger infant classroom, indoor toilets, a staff room, a servery and a hall which no longer doubles as a classroom. In the summer of 1999 toilets were added to the annex and in September 2000 it was opened as our fourth class for the Foundation children.
At present we have 65 children on roll in three classes. Currently the Headteacher has a teaching commitment of two days a week and is supported by a senior management team which consists of a senior teacher and a part time secretary. There are also two full time class teachers, a heads relief teacher for 3 days and a teacher who works mornings in Minnows Pre-School. All teachers have subject responsibilities. We have many teaching assistants who help throughout the school.
At present the school has thirteen governors. Individual governors are linked to particular areas of the curriculum and aspects of school life. The governing body has a number of committees: Appeals; Buildings; Health and Safety; Finance and Personnel. All governors are involved in staff appointments.
