School Dinners
Those of you who attended our ‘Food for Life Partnership’ launch afternoon will know that we are currently looking at ways to improve our school meals. We are unhappy with the standard of school meals that are cooked for us; often the nutritional balance is inadequate or, there is insufficient choice. Some parents have also expressed a concern at the standards of our school meals. It is important to point out here that we do not cook our meals or set the menu. We are currently locked into a contract with a catering company who design the menus; our food is then cooked at Lostwithiel school.
At present we do not have a kitchen that is equipped to cook school meals. However, that is our dream; we want to have our own kitchen so that we can cook our meals on site. We also want to be in charge of our own menus. It is hoped that the allotment area will soon have a poly-tunnel, which will provide us with year round vegetables and herbs (eventually!).
The staff and governors have agreed to investigate ‘going-it-alone’.
However, while we wait for a new kitchen we, (as staff) do not want to continue with the school meal system as it is. Listed below are the options we are currently considering. It really would be great to hear your comments and suggestions, so please complete the attached form and return it to school as soon as possible.
If you would like to discuss our ideas further then please do not hesitate to speak with Mrs. Winch or Miss. Simpson. Thank you.
- We could finish our contract with the catering company at the end of this academic year (July) and in September have our meals cooked for us by a local business (e.g. local pub). This system has worked in other schools but again, costings will have to be done in order to see if this idea is feasible. This system would then continue until our own kitchen was built.
- We have currently spoken with our catering company who promise that the menu will improve by Easter; time will tell. The children tell us there have already been some improvements to quality so, if the menu and cooked food continue at an acceptable standard, we could stay with the catering company until such time that we have our own kitchen.
With our own kitchen we will be able to cook local, fresh and where possible, organic produce every day. Please help us achieve our dream by giving us your comments below. Thank you. J

I am pleased to say that we have sufficient numbers to run both of these. More Information will be out shortly.
Volunteer Drivers
We are currently compiling a new list of volunteer drivers for 2010. If you may be able to help out on school trips and visits we would be grateful if you could fill out a Volunteer Driver Form which is available from the office. If you filled a form out last year, this has now expired and a new one has to be filled in.
Laptops
The current home/school laptop programme has not worked out as well as planned. Due to this we are offering parents the option of purchasing their child’s laptop for £40. If your payments are up to date and you wish to purchase the laptop, please send in your payment to the office. If you do not wish to purchase the laptop, please return it to school.
Film Club News
Firstly apologies for cancelling Film Club this week- working in another school can make it tricky sometimes, hopefully Club will resume next week. Just to update those that do not know, Film Club happens every Wednesday from 3:15-4:15. Children choose the film to watch and then if they review a film they are given a special Film Club tag with a unique
code. This code allows access to the filmclub.org website with competitions, reviews and trailers. Children can then wish for films to be shown. For those that do not get access to a computer-don’t worry! We have had written film reviews from year 1- year 6 and these have been added to the site. Due to the nature of the club we show the film in 2 halves so next week will see the final part of Bolt. We will then break up for half term with a mini movie festival from ‘Aardman Animations’ and decide which film to show when we return after half term. We hope the children enjoyed their visit to the cinema courtesy in part to a Film Club grant and look forward to seeing more film reviews written by children- best one gets a certificate in assembly.
We are also running an ‘Astroboy’ competition – just design a robot on an A4 piece of paper and hand it to the film club box at the main reception and the entrants will be sent to Film Club headquarters in London- all entries get put on the website and the best will be awarded prizes- good luck- check out www.filmclub.org for more details.
Happy Viewing

Class 1
Although Mrs Morse is feeling much better, she has not yet fully recovered. We are hoping that she will be back on Monday 8th February. In the meantime, Mrs Roberts will continue to teach the class.
On Thursday 4th February, Class 1 will be visiting the Methodist Church for a look around. Following that they will be going to the Library for storytime. Parents are invited to come along to the Library at 2.30pm to join in if they are able and children can then go home after the story. Any parent that is unable to come along, could we please ask them to collect their child from the Library at 3pm. This is to enable other siblings to be collected from school on time.

The current school menu will now carry on until the end of the spring term.
